Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Objective:

My students need hands-on math manipulatives like play dough, Unifix cubes, and ten frames to develop foundational number sense and problem-solving skills.

My Students:

I teach a diverse group of energetic and curious kindergarteners in a Title I school, where many students are newcomers and English Language Learners. My students thrive when given opportunities to explore math concepts through hands-on activities. These young learners benefit from interactive, engaging materials that help them grasp early numeracy skills and build confidence in their mathematical thinking.

My Project:

In my classroom, students learn best through exploration and play. This project will provide essential math tools that will enhance their learning experience.

Play Dough: Perfect for forming numbers, modeling addition and subtraction problems, and strengthening fine motor skills while engaging in tactile learning.

Unifix Cubes: A versatile tool for counting, patterning, comparing numbers, and basic addition and subtraction. These cubes help students visualize mathematical concepts in a concrete way.

Ten Frames: Essential for understanding number relationships, composing and decomposing numbers, and building a strong foundation in place value.

With these resources, my students will engage in meaningful math activities that make learning fun and accessible. These tools will support their ability to count, recognize numbers, and develop number fluency, setting them up for future success.

The Impact:

Many of my students are experiencing structured math instruction for the first time. By providing them with engaging, hands-on materials, I can help bridge learning gaps and build their confidence in math. These tools will allow my students to work independently, in small groups, and with partners to explore math concepts at their own pace.

Your support will make a difference by giving my students the tools they need to succeed in math.
