Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

All of my students have varying degrees of autism. Two or more of my students are non-verbal, or have limited communication skills. These materials, such as the giant magnetic fraction pieces will serve as visuals to support student learning, and the pattern blocks will allow my students to create different designs. The 3-D Geometric shapes will allow students to recognize faces, lines and vertices during our geometry unit, and finally the math story books will support my students in their development of number line skills.

These materials will allow my students to learn new and exciting math lessons using a visual and tactile approach.

For example, my students will be able to select units using the Building Fractions Activity Center on their own. They will use the Nuts About Counting to practice counting skills and accurately use measurement tools to solve problems in the context of a daily living activity.

Another way these materials will support student learning will be by being able to match symbolic representations to fractional parts using appropriate manipulatives such as the giant fraction circles.
