My Students

I will be teaching 5th-grade students in the coming school year as a first-year teacher. I look forward to getting to know each individual student as a person and as a learner. 5th graders come to school and want to be challenged. This age allows for a large amount of hands-on engagement and student interest led activities. I strive to provide my students with as many resources in all areas of their learning. I want my students to feel as if they were given the opportunity to learn effectively and develop new interests and skills.

My Project

As a first-year teacher, I have many ideas that will make my classroom the best learning environment for my future students. However, those ideas come with many needs. One thing I have found incredibly important to have for students are math manipulatives. The manipulatives I would like for my 5th-grade students are fraction circles, base blocks, math link cubes, place value disks, decimal dice, pattern blocks, fraction dice, Unifex Cubes, and rainbow fraction tiles. Having these hands-on materials can assist students of all learning levels better understand the math skill being taught. When a student is struggling to understand a concept, being able to physically manipulate an object to see that problem work, helps them develop their understanding. I want to provide my students with as many resources needed for them to reach their highest potential.
