Hands-on Math!

My students need manipulatives and resources to help them expand their mathematical knowledge in the classroom, including 1/4 graphing paper. This will allow them to demonstrate their knowledge and line up their numbers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Aspirantes con Orgullo! My students are sixth graders at a bilingual charter school. Students receive education in both English and in Spanish, wherefore by the time they move onto high school, they will be fully bilingual. We are a Title I school, with 90% percent of our students coming from low-income families.

Many of our students have not had the opportunity to really explore and flourish in the area of math.

My goal, as a math teacher, is to allow my students to make a meaningful connection with each topic I present to them through small groups, videos, presentations, stations, etc.

Seeing my students enjoy learning about the world around them and making connections brings me such joy and pleasure! To be able to provide my students with more supplies to further their love for learning and MATH, would mean a great deal.

My Project

Many students learn through hands-on experiences with mathematical concepts. Being able to visually see the whole number and decimal place value, through the use of the value cards, will help them to understand scientific notation, along with the expanded form of numbers. Often we lose educational time by having students draw number lines, graphs or model the multiplication of fractions through drawings. Gaining the resources of the write and wipe boards, fraction multipliers, and the graphing paper will allow more time for instruction and critical thinking.

Students love to have cool resources to make their learning more interesting.

The items we are requesting will do just that for my students. The magnetic folders will allow me to place the resources requesting on the whiteboard for easy access to my students. This will also allow for the educational flow to continue to move more fluently.

Many of the resources will be used during guided math time to help me focus on the needs of my students to be successful. The manipulatives will be used in both guided math time and independent math time to help students build their skills.

Time in the classroom is precious and utilizing every minute is essential to student success. Each resource mentioned above will allow for all time to be used effectively and keep my students engaged with mathematical manipulatives.
