Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My are from a low-income neighborhood in Houston's East End area, attend a Title I, Part A school and are also enrolled in the Dual Language Program. They work very hard to accomplish their yearly goals. As their teacher I do my best by providing them with differentiated instruction, with materials to target their individual needs. Although this year will be a different start to our Kindergarten year, I know that this won't stop them to be engaged in our virtual activities.

My Project

Hands-on material helps students be engaged and demonstrate a concrete way to illustrate their thinking. These strategies, such as the Rekenrek, help student's development of number sense.

By providing my students with these Rekenreks, we will be able to visually understand the composing and decomposing of numbers from 1-20.

My virtual students will also have the opportunity to participate and it will be easier for them to demonstrate their understanding as it is an age appropriate tool and easy to hold. We are eager to have your support and anxious to have these in our hands to be able to use.
