My Project

Lakeshore produces a lot of wonderful products that make it fun for students to participate in speech therapy. I often work with my students in one-on-one settings or in small groups of two or three students. But I also prepare language-rich lesson plans that the teachers in the preschool classroom implement as part of their small-group rotations. These activities are much more enjoyable for the students when they have physical objects that they can work with and manipulate in order to better understand what they are being taught.

As a speech therapist, one of my biggest goals is to make my speech therapy sessions and small-group lessons fun so that my children want to participate.

As part of my M sound unit, we learn about magnets, and the STEM magnet science kit will be an excellent resource to help children visualize and understand the use of magnets. The theme in the preschool classroom this year is dinosaurs, so the dinosaur themed toys and manipulatives I have selected will be great resources to incorporate into lessons about counting, prepositions, vocabulary, and more. The other miscellaneous toys will be used for vocabulary development, language modeling, and sometimes simply reinforcers and attention grabbers to help keep things upbeat and interesting for the students. And the mobile organizer will make it all easier to store and transport for use wherever I need them.
