My Students

My classroom is a special education resource classroom for students in Kindergarten-4th grade. My students have a wide range of developmental needs including Autism, reading disabilities, speech and language impairments, sensory processing disorders, learning disabilities, anxiety disorders, and Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

My students are smart, creative, hard working kids who learn best with hands-on activities, positive reinforcement, and opportunities for movement.

My students come to my classroom throughout the school day for small group instruction. In my classroom, we focus on mathematics, reading, writing, social skills, and positive behavior skills. In addition to academic skills, I strive to teach my students the importance of hard work, perseverance, kindness, and integrity.

My Project

These materials will help make a difference in my students' learning by providing them high quality hands-on mathematics, reading, writing, and social skills activities. My students come to me with different strengths and needs, and they are each at a different level of learning.

My students all have an Individualized Education Program with a specific set of academic and social/behavior goals that we focus on.

The specific math skills my students are working to achieve this year include mastery of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Their reading goals focus on increasing their fluency, phonics, and reading comprehension skills. Their writing goals target writing complete sentences and/or paragraphs with correct mechanics and conventions. Each week I also teach social skills classes to help my students develop positive peer relationships and classroom behavior skills.

I chose each of these activities to help each one of my students meet their goals and build confidence in their ability to learn and be successful in school.
