Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach to a group of 100 Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth grade students in a lower-income part of East San Diego County. My students are resilient and face every challenge they meet head on. They are positive role models who want to make changes in the world for the better.

This year, we are working on bringing the fun back into learning!

I want my students to explore the content in new and exciting ways! They need to be able to interact with hands-on activities and have the content embedded into real-life contexts. This will help foster relationships and establish a positive classroom atmosphere.

My Project

My students need the following resources because they need excitement and the element of surprise in their learning! We can look at pictures of molecules inside their textbook, but when I can put atoms in their hands with these molecule kits, I bring their learning to life! My students need engagement created by room transformations that I can do using the picnic tablecloths to fully immerse them in their learning! Using items such as brick glasses, students become builders and investigators, exploring and absorbing knowledge in dynamic ways! The popsicle sticks will help them create and have hands-on STEM learning opportunities. This way school no longer becomes this "boring" place, it becomes an exciting environment where they keep wanting more!

Students deserve to have hands-on materials like molecule kits to be able to collaborate and build a supportive team mentality so they can take these components with them when they leave school.

The job market is tough these days, and 65% of our students will have jobs that don't even exist yet when they exit college! We have to be innovative, allow them to think outside the box, and be creative within the four walls of our classroom.
