My Students

We are always trying to incorporate more and more technology into our classroom. We continually research different pieces of technology and try to find new things to help students learn and keep their love for learning alive! Osmos is the next BIG thing!

Our school is a wonderful place filled with bright students.

As with many children, they do not have many opportunities to learn about current events with age appropriate material on their reading level. Approximately 80% of our students are eligible for free or reduced priced meals. Although they may lack the advantages of peers from more affluent settings, they do not lack for energy and enthusiasm! Our school is a small neighborhood school in an urban setting.

My Project

Osmo is a hardware gaming device for kids that connects to any iPad. How does it work? It turns physical objects and interactions into digital game elements. There are currently three games to start with. With Tangram, you need to arrange tangible puzzle pieces to match what's on the iPad. With Newton, you need to use objects like a hand drawings, glasses, keys, or anything around you to guide falling on-screen balls into targeted zones. With Words, you need to guess and spell out the on screen hidden word by tossing down real life letters faster than your friends in front of the iPad. The hint is in the picture. My goal is to get my students to use the Osmo to expand their thinking and make connections to digital problem solving. We are going to use the Osmo as part of our learning centers.

I am always trying to keep my students challenged and try to get them to think more creatively and I can't wait to see how much the Osmo games will help my students use their brains in different ways.
