My Students

My students come to school every day with a desire to learn despite their home environments. My school is a Title I campus which means a large percentage of students receive free lunch. Some families receive a backpack full of food to take home for the weekends. Even though they face many economic and emotional challenges, my students want and need to be successful!

For many of my students, coming to school is the best part of their day.

This has become especially true after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. My students deserve to have access to materials that will foster their love of learning and fun!

My Project

My students need science and math manipulatives to master academic concepts. The traditional paper and pencil method of teaching does not effectively engage or challenge my students. My students need to be able to explore their learning through the use of manipulatives. The science manipulatives such as the force & motion lab, magnet tub and thermometers will be used to perform experiments that help develop critical thinking skills. Students will use the balance scale to compare and measure mass and matter. The hands-on science manipulatives help build the foundation that my students need in order to be successful throughout their academic journey. The math manipulatives such as the multi-step math cards, place value games, and operation puzzles will be used on a daily basis in our math stations. Many of my students struggle with basic math concepts. My students will use the manipulatives and games to master rigorous math concepts such as multi-step problems and regrouping with addition & subtraction. The math manipulatives will allow my students to enjoy their learning while mastering strategies they need to be successful academically.
