Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our classroom is a vibrant community of eager learners! Our small rural town is located a few miles from the Mexican border with 72% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Making sure that students have the necessary supplies and tools to be successful in school is our main concern. In order to provide access and close equity gaps, we have opened a brand new STEM Center. We believe all students deserve to have experiences that will prepare them for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Despite this focus and commitment, we are still limited in the essential items we need to provide a robust STEM experience for our kids. My students love coming in during their lunch time and spend time hanging out in the STEM Center using the Makerspace items and creating art.

This project seeks to purchase a foldable rolling cart, Posca Markers and additional Makerspace supplies for students to use during their lunch time and their assigned STEM Center time.

These supplies will give my students the tools they need to explore, create, and express themselves. My students love to create and explore the Makerspace bins I have in the STEM Center they look at the monthly challenges and enjoy working on them. One of my goals is to have the STEM Center become a safe place for students to feel they can be themselves and explore their interest and uncover their passions.
