Hands-on Learning in Small Groups

My students need wobble chairs and bean bag seating, K'NEX manipulatives, and materials to have small group centers where they can get hands-on learning and more individual instruction.

My Students

My class is full of energy and excitement for learning. I have students from varied backgrounds. We have family homes, apartments, and government-assisted transitional housing in our community. Many students have different learning styles and needs that must be accommodated to help them reach their potential.

My students are future engineers, entrepreneurs, and inventors.

They are not excited about sitting in a desk listening to information. They are ready for hands-on exploring, interactive experiences, and for getting involved with learning. We are seeing new students coming into classrooms. Students who are doers. Students who will bring future technology and discoveries to our lives. These are my students.

My Project

When my students are in small group activity centers, they are busy. They are using manipulatives, working together, and problem solving. As a teacher I can also have the time to meet with each student to reteach or enrich their individual learning. Having small centers helps me reach my students individually -even with a large class.

With these materials I can add to our activity centers and make them work better for my students.

Bean bags will give my students a comfy place to read around our class library. Wobble chairs around our horse-shoe table will be a place to meet and work together. Snap boxes and K'nex will allow for exploring simple machines. A pocket chart will help keep everyone moving and organized.
