My Students

My students are from a large, urban community that welcomes families from all over the globe. They bring a unique blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences, and culture to our school. Our English as a New Language class size fluctuates during the school year, as newcomers arrive from other countries throughout the year. Our mix range of abilities and backgrounds makes our classroom extraordinary!

My students are creative, talented, and very enthusiastic about learning.

The majority of my students need extra language and reading supports. They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to help increase their success in our newly established distance remote learning platform. The non-traditional start to the upcoming school year will be a challenge in itself for my students. Our blended learning model will only provide them ten days of in-school learning. Being mostly remote presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have access to supplies in their homes.

My Project

Blended learning presents many challenges for my English Language Learners. These resources will allow them to use manipulatives at home to support their reading, phonic, and math lessons.

My students will need resources like dry erase lap boards, erasers, and makers to participate in live instruction.

My students will be able to join in phonics lessons and use them to share and show their answers live from a Google Meet. The dry erase pockets will allow my students to practice skills like letter formation to help build mastery. Having math manipulatives at home is crucial to help them develop their critical math skills. When we shut down so rapidly in the spring, I was unable to provide hands-on resources to my students, and they struggled through some math lessons.
