Hands-on, Learn on

My students need manipulatives such as marbles, blocks, and other materials to develop fine motor skills. They also need boards and letters for hands-on activities to learn letter sounds and new sight words.

My Students

Being a first year teacher is extremely expensive! As a new teacher, I am trying to develop a classroom full of hands-on materials for the students. Unfortunately, I do not have all the money in the world to supply manipulatives for the students to learn.

The students in my classroom are excited about kindergarten, and are extremely ready to learn every day!

They respect the materials I have in my classroom that were handed down to me from many veteran teachers. Many students in my class love to use table toys and manipulatives to learn. In fact, I see a larger difference in the students' comprehension when they have used hands-on materials in the lesson. The only problem is I do not have full class sets of many manipulatives and the students get disappointed when they cannot use them.

My Project

If I were to have hands-on materials, my students would benefit greatly. They would be able to sort, develop fine motor skills, and use their imagination to build. Students would be able to use the small magnetic white board to sound words out with the magnetic letters, and also practice sight words. I feel it is important for students to have these materials in their classroom to develop social skills also. They will work together with their classmates and be able to work as a team to create a masterpiece.

As a first year teacher, I need all the help I can get with materials.

Not only will my students this year benefit from these materials, but future students as well. I think it is very important to give every child the opportunity to learn using all materials, unfortunately with this time and day our schools cannot afford to buy us the materials we need.
