We are a first grade class made up of 23 students, which are considered to be below the poverty level. As a teacher I want the best for my students and strive for excellence against all odds. My students deserve to have the basic fundamental essentials and materials in the classroom to be successful.

Our school has only a few science kits in the building that hasn't been refurbished in the last few years. I have been teaching science through make shift materials that I have bought myself and in some cases made. I would love to have the materials (magnets, hand lenses, centers, and paint) requested so I can teach science units on magnets, the human body, plants, and classification. Our school does not have a language arts program, however, my kids are tested in this area for the state test. The ready made centers and other materials (magnetic letters, word stamps, sentence builder blocks, writing paper and centers) will help enrich the skills I have taught my students through books I have purchased. Hands-on fun is the way to go!

I chose various science materials and already made centers to help with my multilevel classroom. I also chose language arts materials to help address the low readers we have in the school. The centers will be used to help promote independence, practice and peer tutoring.

Your help will ensure that my students will continue to make progress and perform well on the state test. Your help will also make it possible for me to have the materials I need to help my students that are functioning well below level grade. My students will enjoy the materials and it will make learning much more fun for them, too.
