This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

While the holiday season is meant to be a joyful time, for many it is a time of great financial challenge and worry. We are a Title I school and our school community is mostly drawn from a low-income urban area. Many of our students' parents are hard-working individuals who are struggling to make ends meet. As a culminating activity to our yearly social studies unit on Holidays Around the World, it is my wish to have a fun holiday hands-on, project based interactive learning experience in which students can create gift items for parents, family and friends! They will accomplish this by using markers, wooden crafting materials, gift bags, treats and holiday trinkets to create gifts, I'd like to have a special arts and crafts party for my students this year.

As part of our Around the World celebration, and as a theme culminating activity to our month-long Holidays Around the World Unit of study, I'd like to be able to give my students an opportunity to engage in creating holiday arts and crafts, cards, letters and gift bags for them to enjoy over the holiday season and gift to others.

Regardless of their individual challenges and special individual needs, my students are eager to learn and have been working hard to meet their academic goals. This holiday season, I'd like to ensure that all my students feel the joy and spirit of the season!
