My Students

There is never a dull moment in my classroom with the bright, funny, creative individuals I have the pleasure of teaching. My students are middle schoolers with significant cognitive disabilities.

All of my students have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that address their broad range of academic, communication, social and functional needs.

My students come from a wide variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. One common thread is their enthusiasm to show up every day eager to take on new challenges. My students love to come to school and it is my joy to get to be their teacher.

My Project

We are entering a unit on geometry and we could use some resources. I learned about the "Which One Doesn't Belong" book at a training and am eager to dig into it for our math warm ups. I love that it comes with digital files so I can project them on my board.

Building and shorting shapes with physical manipulatives will help my students develop understanding of concrete math concepts.

I have several 2-dimensional manipulatives but now with 3-D we can bring sorting by attributes to a new level. The "Dive into Shapes" set is really exciting to allow my students to share their understanding of geometry through building their own 2-D and 3-D shapes. This set has many applications with STEAM projects.
