My students need these Magna-Tiles and Legos so they can expand their creativity and build unique structures. Legos and Magna-Tiles allow open-ended thinking and the sky is the limit for what they can create!
My class is made up of 20 wonderful students who love school and are very excited to learn! They can't wait to get to school, and their smiles are contagious! They are the reason that I love teaching 1st grade!
Our school is located in a small town in southwest Virginia.
There are 460 students in our school, and about 60% receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of our students are transient and move in and out of schools throughout the year. For many years, our school was a community school with 2nd and 3rd generation students. However, during the last 5 years, our population has changed and so have the needs of our students.
My Project
My students love playing with different building materials. For many of them, school is their only opportunity to use Play-Doh, Legos, and Magna-Tiles. They get so excited to show me their creations and tell me all about it. These activities support creativity and literacy as they describe what they have made.
Children love to create things!
They can use their imagination to build amazing structures with Legos and Magna-Tiles. These activities also support their mathematical understanding of shapes, counting, patterns and number sense. They will be having so much fun, they won't even know they are learning.
Learning is so much more than just remembering facts and writing the correct answers. Having these materials in my classroom will allow such powerful learning to take place for all of my students!
