Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 7th graders who are mostly economically disadvantaged. Most of them are new to the States, while, majority are below grade level in Mathematics.

Despite these limitations, they are innovative thinkers and smart explorers with big dreams who against all odds want to learn and be successful.Their positive outlook in life is inspirational and challenging.

They love to relate whatever they are learning to it's relevance in life to them.

My students are fun to teach and love having fun while learning.

My Project

These manipulative will help my students to better understand the math concepts that will be covered in this grade level and set the stage for success for them. The fold and learn geometry shape will be used to teach the different dimensions of a geometry shape, finding area, lateral and surface area, volume and drawing the net of these polygons. The equation tiles will be used when we learn solving two-steps equation and the number lines will be implored to show my students how to add and subtract rational numbers especially negative numbers which have proved to be very confusing concept at this point.

All these manipulative combined will take away the abstractness of these math concepts and bring them to life for my students.

Many of my students struggle as ESL learners to grasp the math concepts due to language barrier and new unfamiliar vocabularies. I can see their light bulb turn on as they see, feel, touch and practice using these manipulative to learn. Lastly, the books on wheel cart will help us as a class to keep our manipulative organized and safe and will make for easy distribution during use.

What a huge weight it will take off their shoulder and leave a lasting impression on their journey as life long learners.
