My Students

My students are special in many ways. As their speech teacher, I work on improving a wide range of communication skills. Some of my students have difficulty expressing themselves socially. Some of my students have a limited vocabulary. Some of my students do not speak at all. I strive to find interesting and creative ways to motivate these children to express themselves and communicate effectively with the people around them.

Special education makes up an important part of our school.

My students may be identified with autism, intellectual disabilities, or learning disabilities. Whether these students are in specialized classrooms or are part of the general education setting, I work to address their needs in fun and engaging speech sessions. A majority of my students are exposed to languages other than English, in their homes, and come from low socio-economic backgrounds. Despite the obstacles stacked against them, these students come to school ready and eager to learn.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will help my students tell a story. Students with autism often have difficulty with sequencing and following along with stories and books.

Hands on materials are critical for students with autism.

They need materials such as magnets and visuals to keep them interested and motivated. The materials I am requesting, will be used directly in therapy with students with autism. With guidance from adults, these students will be more likely to reach their goals and make significant progress in their language abilities. I cannot wait to put these interesting materials to use and motivate my students in new ways!
