My Project

The "Hands of Unity" project is a collaborative, community-based art initiative that will bring together underserved youth from grades 9-12 to create a large-scale clay totem that reflects the strength, diversity, and interconnectedness of their community. Students will work together across multiple classes to design, construct, and sculpt the totem, with each participant casting their hands in clay to symbolize their individual contributions to the collective success and unity of the community. The finished totem will serve as a permanent, tangible symbol of their shared effort and the power of diversity in fostering a stronger, more resilient community.

Project Objectives:

1. Community Building: Foster a sense of pride, ownership, and connection among underserved youth by engaging them in a meaningful, collaborative art project.

2. Diversity and Inclusion: Celebrate the cultural, social, and ethnic diversity of the community through artistic expression, showing how individual differences can come together to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

3. Skill Development: Provide students with opportunities to enhance their artistic and technical skills, including clay sculpting, casting, teamwork, and project management.

4. Civic Engagement: Encourage students to see the impact of their work on the broader community and understand how art can be a tool for positive social change.

5. Long-Term Legacy: Create a permanent work of art that will continue to inspire and unite future generations, serving as a visible reminder of the strength of community and collaboration.
