My Project

The students in my class are a special group of very curious and eager to learn 2nd graders. Based on our location in a mixed community and being a Title 1 school, my desire has always been to expose my students to extensive Social Studies and Science topics, especially during the months of January and February.

My main reason for choosing to study/learn about neurosurgeon Ben Carson, MD and contribution to our medicine/society is because a hospital is located near the school.

Also, we are of the same faith. The story of his mothers influence and guidance on his education should inspire them, as it has impressed me. I know that my students will be fascinated by the separation of the Siamese twin story because most of them have younger siblings. Also, I am sure that the child medical kits, stethoscope, clay, play-do and other items will motivate them to continue to focus on Science and Social Studies topics. The school does not have a functioning science lab, thus our projects have to be done in the classroom. I am hoping that the students will be able to use the clay and pay-do to create figurines of Dr. Ben Carson and various hospital workers for a display and presentation during Black History month celebration.
