Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school enrolls about 300 students between early childhood through sixth grade.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
Despite the many challenges my students face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with an organized and meaningful learning environment. My students are all English Language Learners with a handful of them with learning disabilities.
We are in a urban school where all students receive free lunch. I have 20 wonderful students in a 2nd grade inclusion classroom. They come from low income families with little to no resources.
My Project
Students learn by doing. Teachers believe in hands-on learning. Students in activity-based programs perform higher than groups using traditional or textbook approaches. These clocks will be used at home during remote learning. This visual time tool will improve understanding by seeing the connection between a number line and time. Movable hands are red and blue to help kids distinguish between hours and minutes. Students will discover a new way of learning to tell time!
This kit includes 1 magnetic demonstration clock for the teacher, 24 student clocks, and 4 activities per set.
Students can practice and learn to tell time with just hours or just minutes, compare the distance traveled for five minutes and one hour, and color-coded by fives for easy skip counting.
