My Students

Everyone living in the modern world these days seems to know how powerful and fun portable technology is. It would be equally awesome and exciting for my students to have access to e-readers in the classroom to help build their reading skills.

My students live in a low socioeconomic neighborhood, often with many people living in one house or apartment.

Our school is part of the federal free lunch program and this school year is additionally being serviced by the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Our school population is mostly composed of Hispanic and African American students. Statistics aside, this group of students is high-energy and super excited about learning each day they come to school.

My Project

The students in this class are full of energy and enthusiasm in all they do, but are particularly excited about reading. They have been working hard all year learning the alphabet, participating in phonics lessons, and would LOVE the opportunity to read books on the four requested e-readers. In addition to reading hard copy books, e-readers would offer an even wider assortment of children's titles to my students. Many of these students do not have access to many books or opportunities to read at home, so I would love for them to have a chance to maximize class time by reading independently with these e-readers.

Each year, it seems as if public education get less money and resources to help our students succeed in school.

And yet, teachers feel even greater responsibility to best prepare their students for the adult life that awaits them. Please consider your donation as an investment in the future of our children and know that you are truly making a difference in the lives of children who might not otherwise have so many opportunities to succeed.
