My Project

I’m creating a hands-on cooking experience where my students can learn to prepare traditional dishes like mochi, haupia, and coconut milk, using coconuts they’ll open themselves.

To do this, we need a set of durable hammers to safely crack open the coconuts and give students a true taste of the traditional cooking process.

These tools will help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience, empowering my students to learn about the island’s culinary heritage, sustainability, and the vital role coconuts play in our food systems.

Why This Matters: Learning about Hawaiian culture and food traditions is more than just a fun activity. It’s a chance for my students to connect with their heritage, understand the value of local ingredients, and explore sustainable practices. By using coconuts, we’re not only focusing on cooking but also teaching the importance of sustainability: how resources can be utilized with care, how traditional foods can be grown, harvested, and prepared in ways that support both the environment and community.

These hammers will serve as an important symbol of respect for culture and the earth, encouraging my students to appreciate and carry forward these valuable lessons.

How You Can Help: With your generous donations, I’ll be able to purchase hammers that will enable my students to crack open coconuts, a skill that will help them understand the process of preparing local foods. Not only will they learn cooking, but they will also gain life skills and a deeper appreciation for the importance of sustainability in their everyday lives.

Thank you for supporting this unique learning opportunity! With your help, my students will gain the knowledge and skills to carry on cultural traditions, respect the environment, and perhaps even discover a lifelong love of cooking.

Mahalo!
