My Project

Our school is an arts magnet school, and we base our curriculum on inquiry-based units. Our next inquiry unit is on community, and we are going to study both human and animal communities, and their similarities and differences. In order for this learning to really come alive, students will not only have to learn about these communities and habitats, but really experience them.

These materials will allow my students to create and study the various forms of animal homes and habitats, and use experiential learning to recreate these homes and habitats in hands-on, student-centered ways.

Students can choose which materials to interact with during our learning time, and can create the habitat of their choosing, and use these materials in playful learning. They will be able to fully experience the learning through physically manipulating the animal habitats, touching them, moving them, manipulating them. These experiences will allow them a greater understanding of the animal habitats.
