My students need to become engineers and scientists! Most of my students have never really built a prototype or experimented on their own. I'd like to give them the opportunity to dissect, build prototypes, weigh, and measure in lab.
I teach 6th grade science for a Title I school system.
We are located a high poverty area in Tennessee. Over 80% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. I have 75% of the students in the 6th grade, so I get various types of learners. I have regular education, special needs, and gifted students. So, my lessons require a great deal of differentiation. My students have passion for science! They love labs and hands-on activities.
My Project
My students will use the owl pellets to discovery real-life food chains. They will be able to identify the types of consumers the animals are, illustrate the food chain, and describe the predatory/prey relationship. My students will use the KNEX to build prototypes of bridges and follow the engineering process. My students will use the electronic scale and bear weights to practice measuring with the SI system.
These donations will improve the quality of my instruction by adding a hands-on aspect to our lessons.
These materials will deepen my student's understanding of interdependence and the engineering process. Please, help my give my students the quality education they deserve.
