My Students

Guitars are the most popular and recognizable instrument today and our students have a very strong desire to play them. We have been successful in gaining interest for a guitar class at the high school, but we do not have any guitars!

Our school district, nestled in the thick Pennsylvania forests, spans an area of about 350 square miles.

We have great teachers and a great learning environment as our students have a strong desire to learn. Our financial situation has become extremely tight recently, and we are feeling the pinch in the music department. The administration and school board have always supported music and the arts, but can only do so much when it comes to money. Our high school students love technology and interesting, new programs that come into the school. From three years ago with no guitar students, we now have a beginning guitar class, independent study, and acoustic club in the school with about 25 students involved. It would be great if we could get more guitars in the students' hands.

My Project

We are requesting four new, classical guitars with warranties to be used in our high school music department. The guitar has been a very positive learning tool in other school districts and we would like to try it with ours. The guitar can be used to recruit a different group of students to the band and choir program. It can also be used to effectively teach theory, chords, solos, and music appreciation. We are excited for the possibilities that we are about to create!

For the past few years, the motto of our music department has been "It's about becoming a better person." We strive to teach students how to become productive members of society and how to use their musical abilities and leadership skills to benefit the world that they live in.

This project will allow more students to participate in the music program and be taught some of these valuable life lessons and for more students to "become a better person."
