Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been teaching at this school since October 2016. I teach in a pre-kindergarten to 8th-grade school with around 900 students and am lucky enough to see all of them. These students come from various cultural backgrounds. Forty-three percent of the school is ELL (English Language Learners.) There are very large-sized classes and varied levels of English-speaking students.

My students and our school community are very supportive of the arts.

I get to see the joy and smiling faces every day in the hall asking when is their next music class is and what will they be learning next.

Being a young teacher, it is very challenging to support me and my classroom. The reason I am asking for these donations is that my students deserve a classroom that right now I can not give them. I want to help my students in every way and I hope you can help me, help them.

My Project

Our students need guitars to continue to learn music by making music. To learn music is like learning a language. My students crave playing instruments of all types in all grades. Guitars can be used for many different musical genres. This can engage all my learners from different backgrounds and languages

Young musicians need to be submerged into the musical language by playing, singing, hearing, and making music.

By the use of guitars, my students can hear the harmony of chords to continue to build their musical ears. Almost more importantly, students can engage in playing with others in a group setting. After nearly an entire year apart, this connection while being socially distanced, is much needed for social and emotional health!
