My Students

I teach at a neighborhood high school in the city of Philadelphia, known to be one of the most diverse and among the highest performing schools in the district. The students are curious about their cultural history, learning to be more involved in music and the arts. Students come from over 60 different cultural backgrounds, speaking several different languages.

Music is the universal language that brings many of our students together.

Students are actively involved in several multicultural events, concerts, and productions a year. However, being a school in the city of Philadelphia comes with a price: a price of needing support for materials.

My Project

It's that time! We are taking our guitar class to the next level. I am purchasing a group order of capos for my guitar class. Having capos makes playing along with our favorite songs the most rewarding. While we take our skills to the next level, we will be playing along with original favorites, which are sometimes written in a tuned down key or using a capo.

Having the capos will help my students make connections to their favorite songs by performing in the original key.

We are looking forward to adding keys, tuning, and new strumming patterns to our vocabulary.
