My Students

My class is a class of 26 enthusiastic learners who come from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. The majority of my students receive free or reduced lunch. Our classroom is our home away from home. We all come together as a community for lessons and fun activities. However, our resources are limited. We are in need of tools to help meet the needs of each individual learner in our classroom.

In our classroom, we are one big family and we are part of a larger school community.

Some students struggle with daily academic skills, especially those students who find traditional learning activities difficult or who are learning English as their second language. My students need the option of fun, alternative activities and lessons to support their learning styles.

My Project

Students in our class are reading at a wide range of levels - some above grade level, some on grade level, and some below grade level. Many of our students are also ELL learners who have come from many countries around the world to our school. Many of them are enthusiastic about reading and growing, have had limited access to materials and a lack of exposure to quality literature. During reading workshop, we work in small groups to practice reading strategies to help us grow reading levels.

Having these text sets will help our class because every student in the small group will have a copy of their own book to read on their reading level!

We will be able to take a closer look at the text to learn new vocabulary words, develop a deeper understanding of the characters, and infer new ideas while reading. Students will also be able to keep a copy of their group's book in their own book bin to read during independent reading time.
