Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title 1 school located in South Central Los Angeles. My students are excited to learn and come to school with such wonder and awe about the new things they will learn. My students come from low-income families. Many of my parents do not speak English and struggle to help their child academically. One hundred percent of the students at our school receive free or reduced-price meals. I have a wide range of learners including students with special needs. My students are amazing life-long learners who are excited to come to school every day.

My Project

Guided reading has significant beneficial effects on helping students develop reading skills. It is one of the most effective tools not only to improve a student's fundamental reading skills but also to help student develop higher level comprehension skills. With guided reading I can directly help students establish fundamental skills necessary for proficient reading.

I can also identify weaknesses and strengthen specific skills, improve attention to detail, build fluency, expand vocabulary knowledge, and develop reading comprehension skills.

The guided reading sets will allow me to sit down with my students and read. The guided reading sets will be used to meet students on their current level and build upon their skills to move to the next level.
