My Students

My students are all English Language Learners in ESL or bilingual programs in Corona, NY. They are enthusiastic learners and love reading! Many of my students are new to the country, from Mexico or Ecuador, and others have lived in New York their whole lives.

They love reading about sports, animals, music and arts, as well as stories about kids their own age.

They love doing research projects, drawing, writing, and participating in anything hands on! Please support my classroom and students.

My Project

Guided reading books are multiple copies of leveled children's books. Students read in groups, on their instructional levels, with teacher's guidance. For English Language Learners, I teach vocabulary words and reading strategies for kids to pursue as they read. After we read, we discuss the books and I ask comprehension questions. Research shows that kids learn to read when supported just above where they are comfortable reading independently. Guided reading books will help my students move reading levels, and become more independent.

Learning sight words is must for kids to learn to read.

Sight word center will help kids memorize these tricky words.
