Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I want my all of second grade students to make tremendous growth!

We will be working hard to learn about the world around us through reading and writing.

Unfortunately, we are differently-abled and all of us access information differently. While they all express an eagerness to learn, my students with special needs experience challenges that make it more difficult for them to reach their fullest potential. Many students do not have access to books or reading at home.

My school is located in a high-poverty area and is filled with amazing, curious students that face many challenges, both at home and in school. In addition, many students are English-language learners and/or have non-english speaking caretakers at home. Studies show that shared reading and guided reading are most important to a students success in all subjects. Reading truly is fundamental!

My Project

Studies show that shared reading (reading with others) and guided reading (reading with a little help) are most important to increase students' reading abilities. Multiple copies of books will help my students read books together during shared reading activities.

Reading truly is the cornerstone of all other subjects.

These high-interest book sets and activities will grab and hold my students interest, while the built-in guided questions will help them develop their thinking and questioning skills. Those are skills that are used in all subject areas, and the topics in these books touch on science, social studies and technology!

I plan to use the book sets to create reading groups and literacy circles. My students can read and discuss books together while improving their reading skills and learning about topics they are excited to learn about.
