My Students

Time for math! It has been proved that guided reading instruction is the best practice for teaching reading skills. It is now time for me to bring guided math into the classroom!!

I teach full day kindergarten in a large city in a school district with huge budget problems.

I love the diverse student population at my school and always enjoy having a classroom with at least 5 different languages spoken and several different cultures represented. Full day kindergarten is a big adjustment for my young learners, and I like to do everything possible to teach them as much as I can while having them develop a love of school and learning.

My Project

This year I am really focusing my attention into teaching more math in small guided groups. Students seem to achieve so much more and so much faster when there is a smaller teacher to student ratio. In a small group setting, they get the personalized instruction they need to reach their potential. I am lucky to have a good number of volunteers this year to help implement this strategy. In order to launch this new form of instruction, I am in need of rigorous materials to work on with small groups. In addition, my student will need more rigorous materials that they can work with on their own to hone their craft. My students need math materials such as word problem journals, math games, activity cards and math manipulatives.

Please help me implement an in depth guided math program in my classroom.

My students will benefit so much from the small group instruction and it will help them develop the math skills they need. These materials will challenge the higher-leveled students and foster the needs of students who need extra practice on basic skills.
