Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are sixth, seventh, and eighth graders in a dual-language school. My school is a special place and a wonderful community. Teachers and students alike are happy to be in school and are excited and eager to learn.

Remote learning has been tough, but we are finding ways to stay connected through extracurricular clubs like GSA.

My Project

Middle schoolers in the GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) club designed these hoodies during school closure due to COVID this year. The frog symbolizes gender fluidity, and the pink triangle is a less common symbol of LGBTQ+. The idea was for them to have a way to have pride without it being something obvious like a rainbow or the acronym GSA in case students weren't out to their parents.

Now that we are back in school, the club has grown and these hoodies are in high demand!

Gear is always a great way to get students to join a club, and an excellent way to spread comraderie.
