Growl and Meow: Art and Literature Come Together

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In Art class, students have decided to focus on the story of Peter and Wolf and Kitten's First Full Moon. Peter and The Wolf introduces young learners to the instruments of the orchestra and artists will use brush strokes and lines to give the wolf texture. In Kitten's First Full Moon the kitten thinks that the full moon is a bowl of milk and climbs out to the farthest branch only to find herself stuck.

Both stories have the most vulnerable character strategizing ways to solve their problems.

This idea of solving problems with critical thinking is so important to learning especially in art class when what an artist is thinking and what they can actually create may be worlds apart. We will embark on these adventures using some of the tools you are donating.

Older students are trading with the artist trading cards. Students can practice on paper 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches much easier than a large piece of paper where the negative space is huge and scary. Your donation helps a variety of learners take risks in the art classroom as they embark on the journey of art making.
