Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the luck of working with energetic young minds. In our self contained class my students learn to manage school work, engage in building social skills and make an effort to complete challenging work that follows Common Core standards. They also learn to build social skills and confidence in their potential. Ultimately, their skills in math and reading will meet the demands of a rigorous Common Core Curriculum.

My students range in reading and math levels and need constant support and motivation.

They are fully engaged if the curriculum is presented in a fun and original way through the means of hands on activities, art projects and outdoor excursions such as field trips. Furthermore, maintaining a classroom that meets the needs of a special education class should include diverse seating, multiple entry points and technology.

My Project

Art works wonders in helping a child to express their views, show insight and understanding about the content. Building a global community is a key factor in helping 2nd and 3rd graders better understand their place in the world. By using the art materials listed and by decorating the class with a warm and friendly rug that provides visual geographical cues, my students will gravitate to learning and have fun in the process.

The project will consist of answering the question, "What is a land form?

They will draw geographical vocabulary by creating an art display for numerous water and land formations such as volcanoes, delta, river, valley, isthmus, glaciers, etc. The students will use the water color and card stock paper to draw and paint several land forms found in different continents. They will then work in groups to cut out and paint their own continent using cardboard which will serve to create a map of the world and become the focal point of the bulletin board.
