A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I want the students in my school to have every experience their peers have. Our students all have a diagnosis of autism, intellectual disabilities, or other developmental disabilties. Each and every skill they gain, truly changes their lives. As a school, each day, our goal is to teach our students and their families to love learning new things and to explore the world.
People say it takes a village to raise a child.
At our school, it takes children, families, extended family, loved ones, teachers, para-professionals, related service providers and support staff to build transfer concepts from home to school and to the community. This process is a continuous cycle that is important for a team of committed people to work and learn together.
My Project
The teachers and providers at our school want to make parent teacher conferences a learning experience for all. We would like to get a laminator, laminating sheets, velcro, and binder rings, so we can make interactive books with visuals for our families to read and use with their children. We would like to get art materials to work with the families on making simple and fun art projects that they can then make at home. We would like to get the Music comic books for some of our students who are able to engage in writing and drawing to motivate them to write more details.
Parent engagement and involvement is important to teach our families how to be their children's best advocates.
Obtaining these materials will help us to teach our families ways to engage their students, at home, in a fun and exciting manner. We will also be able to provide them with materials that they are able to take home with them. Also, while they are meeting with their child's teacher, they will know that their child is engaged in appropriate activities.
Our goal is to continue using these materials to provide additional parent trainings and conferences for families, on topics of interest, that can be replicated at home.
