My Project

My students love nature. They have expressed that they would love to have a garden of their own. We are very fortunate that there is a community garden right across the street from the main building, and I have inquired about renting a garden space for my classroom.

Gardening has been shown to have mental and physical health benefits, and it would be an amazing opportunity for my students, most of whom live in rental units and don't have access to a garden plot.

I would love to be able to introduce them to the process, successes, and, yes, failures of gardening with their own dedicated space.

I've chosen items that will not just allow for planting in the garden space, but will also allow them to take some items home to continue to care for in their home space, whether that is a backyard or window sill. Most of my students live quite close to the community garden, and I hope to set up a schedule where they will visit the garden even through the summer and share what they have grown with their families. I hope that this will become an on-going project in our school.
