Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a part of a diverse community of learners representing many cultures and ethnicities. More than 80% of my kindergarteners are identified as English language Learners speaking various Chinese dialects, Spanish and Arabic. We are part of a Title I school located in an immigrant community. Being a Title I school means lots of our families struggle financially. The children in this community face many challenges. Since most of our students are English Language Learners, they must learn academic content at the same time as they learn a new language. In addition to this, many our students live in temporary or transitional housing. Through it all, my students shine and persist to learn.

My students love school.

They depend on school for many of their basic needs. We provide breakfast, lunch, and even dinner for many of our neediest students. We have various programs to provide healthcare and clothing when needed. Students know that school is a place for them to grow both mind and body. I am proud of my kindergarten's resilience and continued love for learning.

My Project

I hope you will support my students by donating to our class library. These books will be used to provide guided reading instruction to my brand new kindergarten super readers!

In order for my children to learn to read they need books at their own reading levels.

These books will provide engaging stories that will help foster language development for ELL students, reading stamina and love for learning.

As students learn to read, they fill with confidence and pride. They can't wait to share their books with each other and their families. Becoming a reader opens up the world to students in more ways than one. Through books, my students will get to explore topics that will bring them knowledge and delight but most of all, it will help them to develop a sense of ownership over learning.
