My Students

Did you know Queens is the most linguistically diverse place on Earth? In room 303, we speak Albanian, Japanese, Spanish, Arabic and we come from the Dominican Republic, Russia, and Egypt, just to name a few. At Growing Up Green, we create classroom experiences that encourage students to share about themselves and view themselves as individuals with multiple identities. We are all part of the 303 class community, but we each have other communities that make us who we are that we are learning to celebrate with one another!

All 30 of our students have a unique story, and we hope that with the help of donors, we can write exciting new chapters in our students' lives.

My Project

We have a range of readers in our class from I-P. We'd love for all students, but especially struggling readers, to be able to use audiobooks in their guided reading group to grow to love books more and to practice following along with books as they listen to the words in their headphones. With the splitters, each group could listen to one audiobook together! We often listen to short books in the class, but by having speakers as well, we'd be able to do that whole class at the end of the day for pack up or during our daily quiet times after recess, since our computer speakers don't reach the entire classroom.
