This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our students are creative, spirited, and eager to learn about the world around them. They come from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. Our school is a Title 1, K-5 turnaround school in Dorchester, MA. In an effort to close the opportunity gap and increase academic achievement, students’ goal is to make 1.5 years of reading growth.
Our students are voracious readers, eager to grow in their abilities and love for reading.
As a school we believe the importance of strong reading skills cannot be stressed enough. Consequently, strong reading skills are essential to improving academic outcomes and pushing students toward college and career readiness.
At our school we carry the conviction that the most efficient and significant reading growth occurs when students love what they are reading. Guided reading instruction provides targeted attention to students at their reading level. Our Bookroom lacks a variety of guided reading material in the level L-Y range. Your donation will strengthen our Bookroom library by providing books more representative of diverse student cultural backgrounds, interests, and reading levels.
High-quality guided reading materials will help get all students reading on or above grade level.
High quality reading instruction requires high quality texts. Our students deserve and need these materials to unlock their literacy potential. With your support we will have the appropriate leveled texts necessary to provide effective individualized instruction to best meet the needs of our students.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
