This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a busy center for learning. My students are hungry for knowledge however the resources needed to fill this hunger are not available. My students love to work cooperatively however without books that everyone is reading it is difficult to have grand conversations about their books.

My class is a group of 32 students hungry for knowledge.

They come from a community where English is not the first language spoken. Many of them only get to speak and read English in school which is why having books that can be discussed as a class is so important. They are a fun loving group of kids that want to share their ideas and thrive off of meaningful conversation. My school is quite large and the budget does not allow for us to always get the materials that are needed for our students to have a rich life in literature. The materials that we do have are all used to there maximum capacity. However there needs to be more supplemental materials for the students to use so that they are able to meet the standards and keep pace with those students who are receiving everything they could possibly need.

My Project

With the resources that are requested the students will be given the opportunity to have grand class discussions, work on cooperative projects, and build comprehension through writing. The students will be asked to discuss the books that they are reading, give opinions, and debate characters' actions to events that happen in the novels. They will also be asked to create projects that display important events, create character analysis boards, and write as well as act in skits that depict scenes from the book. They students will build comprehension by writing reviews of the books, opinion essays, and book reports. These books were chosen because they all have strong but varied themes and will all teach my student about different character qualities.

This donation will improve my classroom because it will expose my students to ideas and literature that they would otherwise not be exposed to.

These books all have lessons that the students need to learn and because of this rich conversation will be able to take place in the classroom.
