Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the proud teacher of an amazing group of 3rd graders in a community school in Harlem, where more than three-quarters of students come from low-income households. My students are hard workers, enthusiastic and eager to become stronger readers and mathematicians.

My biggest challenge is that the majority of my students are significantly behind academically.

Over 70% are starting the school year reading below grade level; 40% are considered English Language Learners, and too many have not mastered second grade math learning standards.

I am committed to helping them reach their full potential! With your support I can meet my goal of 80% of my students making a year and a half growth in reading and reaching proficiency levels in this year's math and reading state exams.

My Project

It is that time of the year when writing supplies are running low due to how much my students are learning and writing. We would like to restock on some supplies we desperately need. As the teacher of 20 third graders students, I haven't captured the pencil troll yet, so as you can imagine, pencils are much needed. We also need some creative thinking supplies like markers. Finally, we had our trusty pencil sharpener and sadly it stopped working so we would like one that will last longer and work better. These supplies would further push my students thinking, engagement and output.
