Growing Minds Growing Food

Please help me give my students the rewarding experience of growing their food with hydroponic units. My urban-based students do not have access to gardens to plant seeds so that they will understand the growth process of food firsthand.

My Project

One of our most significant challenges is providing real-world experiences for our students living in New York City. I aim to ensure that every student can increase their understanding of growing their food for health and safety reasons.

With the hydroponic equipment, our students can create a culture of healthy eating for their families.

We must also provide students with tools to transition successfully to the "real world," where they must look long-term for good nutrition.

When students eat well and feel nourished, they're less lethargic and more receptive to lessons. Teenagers who are actively involved in sports also need to eat fruits and vegetables, which provide energy for their activities.

Many of our families shop at food banks and grocery stores, and their children do not have the opportunity to see the growth cycle of plants. Changing the vision of freshly grown vegetables and fruits is a bonus for the entire family.
