Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Learning about the science of growing seeds and nature is essential in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) because it builds foundational skills in science, language, and social-emotional development. Young children learn best through hands-on experiences, and planting seeds allows them to observe growth, change, and cause-and-effect relationships in a meaningful way. Through this process, they develop early scientific skills by exploring life cycles, understanding the needs of plants, and making observations. Additionally, discussing and journaling about their plants helps expand their vocabulary and communication skills, supporting language development. Caring for a plant also fosters patience, responsibility, and empathy as students nurture their seedlings over time. Most importantly, learning about nature helps children connect with the world around them, teaching them where food comes from, the importance of plants in the environment, and how they can care for the earth. By engaging in the science of growing seeds, TK students develop curiosity, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world—skills that will support their growth as learners and responsible individuals.
