Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a speech therapist that works with students with special needs. I am collaborating with the occupational therapist to do a planting project to enrich both language and sensory development. Many of the students live in apartments and lack access to green spaces. Our students can plant and learn how to grow their own fresh flowers from start to finish to gift to their loved ones for a surprise Mother’s Day gift. The students will decorate and personalize their planting pots using stickers and butterflies. It will be paired with writing project to foster vocabulary and language. Many student’s with disabilities benefit from extra motivation and hands on projects.

We work as occupational and speech therapists for students with disabilities in a public school, that serves low-income families.

This will introduce our students to a hands-on way of learning involving sensory and language development while using a multidisciplinary approach.
