My Students

I teach in a very unique building. Our building hosts three programs. We have special education from kindergarten to high school. We also have a special education preschool program. Last but not least we are a elementary building. We service some of the most at risk students in our area. Our building has kindergarten to fifth grade students.

Our school is not located in a neighborhood like most schools.

All our students are bused in or dropped off by parents. We have one of the highest poverty rate in the area. We are only a few percentage points from 100%. We have at least 1 or more homeless students in each classroom. We serve the most at risk group of students to date.

My Project

The first steps to teach children to read is to be read to every day. To learn to read children need to hear great examples of good reading. Children first learn to read by hearing stories as infants. These students have a late start. We have to make up for lost time. Being read to daily teaches children to become life long readers. We want children to read inside and outside of school. Research has proven this time and time again. Please help us build a culture of reading in our classroom. Thank you for helping us build our future.
