My Project

This service-learning project will be led by 24 students with mild intellectual disabilities, empowering them to make meaningful contributions to their school and local community. Together, students will use seeds and the Hydroponics Growing System to create a school-community garden designed to address local food needs and provide a welcoming space for connection, learning, and growth.

This gardening service-learning project is a multifaceted educational tool that will enrich my students' academic, personal, and social development.

Creating a Hydroponics Growing System community garden can address several important issues, such as food insecurity, community engagement, and environmental sustainability. This project embodies the essence of service learning, where education extends beyond the classroom and into the heart of the community.

The Project Goals are:

1. Provide fresh, healthy food for the school and local community.

2. Create hands-on learning experiences that teach essential life skills.

3. Promote a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and environmental awareness.

4. Build an inclusive environment where all students feel valued for their contributions.

Students can play a crucial role in addressing hunger by working in the school-community garden and advocating for policies that support food security.
